Two young musical geniuses unite in Concerto No. 1 in D Minor for Piano – composer Brahms, who was 25 when his concerto was first performed in 1859, and gifted pianist Andrew von Oeyen, who made his solo orchestral debut at age 10. The concert’s second half presents Tchaikovsky’s fifth symphony, reflecting victory through strife. It was broadcast in London on October 21, 1941, while bombs fell in World War II. Music can indeed lift our spirits from darkness into light.
